just a friendly reminder that for over a hundred years, pit bulls used to be referred to as “the nanny dog” and their main job was as babysitters.

  • in temperance tests (the equivalent of how many times your kid can poke your dog in the eye before it bites him) of all breeds the most tolerant was the golden retriever. the second most tolerant was the pit bull. temperament evaluations by the american temperament test society give american pit bull terriers a very high passing rate of 82.6%, while the average passing rate for the other 121 dog breeds tested was only 77%.
  • pit bulls are not naturally human aggressive. in fact pit bull puppies prefer human company to their mother’s two weeks before all other dogs.
  • no spayed/neutered, indoor pit bull has ever killed a person.
  • contrary to the popular myth, pit bulls DO NOT have locking jaws.
  • approximately 6000 pit bulls are put to death every day, by far the highest number of any breed euthanized.

This message is so important.

THIS THIS THIS!

seriously guys..

so you’re saying there’s a super-sciencey testing facility where toddlers poke dogs in the eye or…?

So you think just because the followers of one religion didn't pray to a theoretical man that makes life, children died? Thy wisdom hath not be less fundamental and inadequate. Achieve a satisfactory day.

No, I think all the prayer in the world to all of the gods of the world would have done zero to prevent anything. It was a sarcastic jab at people who think prayer does anything. God doesn’t intervene because god doesn’t exist.

God

Wikipedia says 93% of our country is Christian. Are they just not praying hard enough, or was it gods will for those twenty kids to die?

This is important to see and understand for everyone. Please, if you see someone in a public restroom that you think might not belong there because they don’t look like you, don’t scream or yell at them, have some compassion and go about your business.

^^ 90% of trans* kids don’t feel safe at school, and one part of the problem is that they have no safe access to bathrooms.  kids have been expelled for using the “wrong” bathroom, others are bullied or beat up, trans adults are chased out by security, harassed, and humiliated.  something as simple as going to the bathroom becomes a daunting, scary, and even dangerous endeavor and its got to stop.  we all deserve privacy, dignity, and safety in the restroom.

If they ain’t tryin’ to diddle your fiddle, who cares who you poop next to?

Seriously Tumblr. You think you are a 90s Kid but really you don’t have a fucking clue unless you know what these are.

Now they’re spring loaded. Are kids that fucking stupid these days that they can’t push their own push pops?

Since when did having health issues make you beautiful? I hate this increasingly popular (at least in the states) everybody wins, everybody is beautiful attitude. If you’re too thin or too fat, you’re too thin or too fat. There IS a threshold you can cross where you lose beauty and it becomes a concern. People focus on the wrong things. Feelings don’t mean shit when you prematurely buy the farm from a heart attack or some other such shit. I’m all for being supportive, but being supportive also means getting someone help when they need it… Not lying and twisting the problem into a “good thing.”

Eating disorders aren’t beautiful, folks. Don’t run your face through the mud about your looks/weight, but don’t lie to and enable yourself.

This rant brought on by a boatload of facebook whining. Move along, nothing to see here.

(For the record, I probably fall into the “I should probably put the fork down” tribe.)

Dragon’s Dogma and Skyrim. My opinion.

So I’ve been reading an awful lot of people comparing Skyrim and Dragon’s Dogma lately. It boggles my mind that people feel the need to berate one game in order to make the other seem better. That said, I’d like to give my opinion on the whole matter.

Dragon’s Dogma is so far a really fun game. I’ve far from experienced it all, so perhaps a few of my points are invalid, but give me a break. I’m new to this “giving my opinion in the form of review/comparison” thing.

People, that is to say the few reviews I’ve read on tumblr, seem to have the opinion that Dragon’s Dogma dwarfs Skyrim in every way possible. I’ve read people say it’s more immersive, that it’s “Skyrim times *insert large number here*,” and even that it’s lack of polish is a good feature. (which it’s not.)

Dragon’s Dogma is a fun game to be sure. The combat is generally really great stuff. Climbing on top of large monsters as they flop about is pure fun. It has downfalls (constantly back peddling wolves and frequent automatic retargetting the wrong guy being among them,) but the combat is fast paced with nearly never a dull moment. In this aspect I do enjoy it more than Skyrim. Being able to abduct strangers characters has proven to be an interesting thing, too. Currently I have two guys who are around 10 levels over my own, so it’s giving me a chance to get attached to them. I will miss them once they become obsolete. That said, they’re as dumb as a sack full of retarded geese. Which seems to be fairly common among the AI of the world in this game. They’ll run into walls without thought of correcting their trajectory and lag behind when you most need them. One point in particular I just wanted to get to a particular shop. Considering there is next to zero fast travel, I had to walk for around a half hour to an hour to get there. Through roads I’ve been through a thousand times, mind you. I had to fight the same 3 cyclopses, 2 chimera’s and pack after pack of mind numbingly time consuming wolves. I tried just barrel assing through it all, and I’d totally have been able to do it on my own. The problem is that no matter how much I mashed the “come here” button, my pawns would find ways to stay behind and get killed, thus forcing me back to fight throngs of baddies and resurrect the fallen pawn. All of this so I might be able to find a nicer shirt. (there wasn’t one there either, so it was a useless trip.” I like walking around for hours on end, I really do. But not for the sole purpose of finding out if a vendor has the newest and greatest t-shirt available. It frustrated me to no end that I had to take an hour long trek to see if I could buy better gear. Fast travel should be an option, at the very least using the morrowind silt strider or Skyrim wagon method. That way we can get to civilized trading outposts without all the unwanted and unneeded hassle. It’s fast making me aware of just how boring the game world is. You can only be forced through the same ten roads so many times before a game looses it’s shiny new feeling. Personal opinion stuff here, but it seems like common sense to offer the fast travel, and if you don’t want that option, then ignore it. Better to have and not need something than to not have it but want it.

As far as immersion goes, Dragon’s Dogma is pretty bland. Outside of combat, there’s not a ton of immersion there. Character customization is fairly bland. You get a bunch of presets that you get to mix and match that 90% of the time just end up looking insanely creepy in cutscenes. You can, however create old folks and what could be dwarves or kids, depending on the body type chosen, which is pretty neat. I don’t know how anyone can consider it more immersive than any of bethesda’s games though. I find it completely the opposite, in fact. You and your brain dead pawns can go into any home, fuck up all the shit lying around, break crates and belongings and take everything there, including stuff off of shops shelves, and the people don’t react at all. No guards harassing you for stealing carrots and shit from a shop owners shelves, no ill words to the rude ass arisen breaking open crates that don’t belong to them, nothing. On top of that, any speaking your character does is absolutely vaguely implied. Sure, in The Bethesda games you don’t hear your character speak, but you guide them into what they basically say. You can be rude or nice and get different outcomes depending on what you choose.

Another thing I absolutely hate is the wading through knee deep shit UI. Pawns pick shit up that I want and I have to go through two or three menus to get it in my inventory. If I want to equip a pawn with an item, I have to make sure I trade it out to them before I can. Why there’s even a separate equipment menu baffles me. Pressing back/select should let you equip weapons and armor, not take you to a secondary inventory that lets you only do half what you might want. Instead, you have to press start, navigate to equipment, then find the shit you want to wear. God forbid you want to heal AND change gear. It may be a little nit picky, but this shoddy UI really tears you from the task at hand.

On top of all this, the frame rates can sometimes be absolutely unplayable. Generally, they’re below 30fps, but on a few occasions they have dipped far lower. So far only in town, but again it’s something that takes you out of the moment. (I’ve gotten pretty used to the below average frame rates, just not when it dips super low.)

I could go on, and I may after work, but I think people are jumping the gun too much saying Dogma dwarfs Skyrim. It’s a really fun game, especially when it comes to epic fights, but it’s way too rough around the edges to really compete with other games. Hell, even the fights are becoming “Been there done that.” I’ve killed the before mentioned 2-3 cyclopses and 2-3 chimeras probably six times at this point. (still haven’t fucked with that drake and only just 30 mins ago killed my first griffon though.) I won’t be surprised in two or three months when people are still talking about new and exciting things in Skyrim (thanks pc availability, mods and decent DLC that adds more than ten minutes worth of half rate shit.) and DD almost completely vanishes from the face of the earth. I do however look forward to a hopeful second DD that will hopefully build off of what is a solid base to a game. With more polish, a bigger world, and a few tweaks this could be better than Skyrim, but it’s not. Not yet, anyway. Won’t stop me from enjoying what’s there, though. Can’t wait to get back to fighting huge shit with my brain dead pawn.
